Italy Urgently Seeks 600K Foreign Workers for 10 Key Jobs

Italy is now dealing with labor shortages in different areas, necessitating a reliance on foreign workers to fill employment openings across the country.

According to the European Labor Authority (EURES), the industries with the largest need for workers are healthcare and social services, research and technology, engineering and construction, and hospitality.

This scarcity creates an opportunity for international persons with skills in these disciplines who want to live and work in Italy. Italy Urgently Seeks 600K Foreign Workers for 10 Key Jobs

The following vocations are projected to be the most difficult to fill between 2023 and 2027:

  • Doctors
  • Nurses
  • Physiotherapists
  • Healthcare and social services professionals
  • Mathematics and computer science specialists
  • ICT technicians
  • Engineers
  • Engineering technicians
  • Skilled construction workers
  • Restaurant staff

Mail sorting and delivery clerks, as well as bank officers, are likely to have lower-than-average demand and low recruiting difficulties, indicating a probable fall in interest in these occupations.

The Italian Ministry of Interior recently revealed that about 608,000 pre-applications for non-EU workers were made by Italian firms before the yearly work visa lottery.

The quota for non-EU workers, on the other hand, has been set at 136,000 for the next year.

Among these applications are 260,950 for seasonal jobs in tourism and agriculture, 253,470 for non-seasonal jobs in construction and allied industries, and around 86,070 for occupations such as domestic workers and health care providers.

The Italian government amended the rules regulating foreign workers and the purchase of residence permits earlier this year. These changes are intended to simplify the hiring and relocation processes for foreign workers in the nation.

Non-EU people who want to work in Italy must go through a special process. They must first find work in Italy, following which the Italian employer can apply for a work permit.

Once the work permit has been obtained, the individual can apply for a work visa at the Italian consulates in their respective countries.
