Saudi Arabia is preparing to build its first alcohol store in Riyadh just for non-Muslim officials.
KSA in recent years is working on its initiatives to become like Europe. They want to decrease their dependency on the oil exports.
According to the paper seen by Reuters, consumers must register via a mobile app, acquire a clearance code from the foreign ministry, and stick to monthly purchase limitations.
This development is part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s strategy to boost tourism and business by relaxing restrictions in the traditionally conservative Muslim country.
MBS wants KSA to be the tourism hub. So he wants to have all the facilities like other tourist spots in the world.
According to the media reports, the alcohol store would open in Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter and would only serve non-Muslims.
The memo did not specify whether non-Muslim expatriates would be allowed admission or not. It should be mentioned that most expatriates in Saudi Arabia are from Asia.
The document stated that the alcohol store is set to open in the coming weeks.
Saudi Arabia maintains strong regulations prohibiting alcohol usage, with violators facing hundreds of flogging, expulsion, fines, or jail as punishment.
As part of continuing changes, the implementation of prison terms has virtually replaced flogging.
