The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme for the academic year 2024/2025 is now accepting applications.
Students from developing Commonwealth nations are encouraged to apply for a fully financed study opportunity at the University of Edinburgh.
The Commonwealth Shared Scholarship Scheme is a collaboration between the UK Department for International Development (DFID) and UK universities, including the University of Edinburgh, to fund scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries who would not be able to study in the UK otherwise.

Description of Scholarship
Scholarship Commonwealth, DFID, and UK Universities are the sponsors.
The host institute is the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. It is Fully Funded with several scholarships have been given out.
Scholarship will be given to Master’s level of education students. Applicants from developing countries can apply for the scholarship
Who can Apply For Commonwealth Shared Scholarship 2024/2025
- To apply for these scholarships, you must do the following:
- You must be a citizen of or have been given refugee status by a Commonwealth country.
- Be a permanent resident of a Commonwealth country.
- Be available to start their academic studies in the UK by the start of the UK academic year in September 2024
- By September 2024, hold a first degree of at least upper second-class (2:1) honors standard, or a lower second-class degree (2:2) and a relevant postgraduate qualification (usually a Master’s degree)
- Not having studied or worked in a high-income country for more than one (academic) year.
- Without this Scholarship, you would be unable to attend a UK institution.
- Candidates should have submitted the relevant supporting documents.
Applications from students planning to study the following eligible programs will be considered for 2024-2025:
- MSc Africa and International Development
- MSc Global Crime, Justice and Security
- MSc Future Governance
- MSc Global Health Policy
- MSc Planetary Health
- MSc International Development
Scholarship Advantages
- The grant is co-funded by the University of Edinburgh and the Department for International Development.
- The scholarship will cover all education costs, air tickets to and from the United Kingdom, and living and maintenance expenses.
- Payments for the program of study are set at £1,347 per month for the academic year 2023-2024.
