All inhabitants, including Pakistanis, are required to hold a valid driving license in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, or risk severe fines.
If the driver’s license is expired, the traffic department may levy penalties. Residents aged 21 and over are entitled to receive a driving license in Dubai, according to RTA criteria.
Residents under the age of 21 can also apply for a probationary driver’s license.
The following is the procedure for renewing an expired Dubai driving license:

- Original valid Emirates ID.
For customers 21 years and above
- Original valid Emirates ID
- Eye test according to the required category.
For Customers Younger Than 21 Years Old
- 100 AED driver’s licence renewal fees
- + 20 AED Knowledge and Innovation fees.
- 500 AED additional fees when requesting the mobile truck service for the eye test and license renewal.
For Customers 21 Years and Older
- 300 AED driver’s licence renewal fees
- + 20 AED Knowledge and Innovation fees.
- 500 AED additional fees when requesting the mobile truck service for the eye test and license renewal.
Penalties for License Renewal Delayed
According to the RTA, the delay fine (10 AED) is computed monthly from the license’s expiration date, with a maximum of 500 AED. If the license has been expired for more than ten years, it is only necessary to pay the monthly renewal costs and take the assessment exam.

If the license has been expired for more than 10 years, the candidate must retake the driving exam to have their abilities reviewed. If the license has not been renewed in more than ten years, the service cost for the assessment exam is as follows:

- 50 AED handbook manual fees
- 200 AED RTA test fees
- 500 AED delay fees in renewing the driving licence
