The amended phase-wise quota of merit-based laptop distribution for students in the province of Balochistan is expected to be approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). ECNEC to Increase Laptop Scheme Quota for Balochistan Students from 6% to 18%.
The sponsor has supplied the laptop distribution merit criteria, together with the cost breakdown of the laptop capital cost and merit criterion, according to a summary that the Planning Commission presented to the ECNEC.
Laptops will be awarded to students in all degree programs solely based on merit, and the number of computers allotted to each program will be based on enrollment.
- Students have secured 70 percent marks for the semester system (2.88 CGPA) and 60 percent marks for annual system students.
- BS 1st Semester Students will be required to provide the HSSC marks, which will be converted into CGPA accordingly. However, MS/Ph.D. 1st Semester Students will be required to add the last degree program numbers
- CGPA/ GPA to Percentage conversion shall be governed by the defined formula.
- The top meritorious students against the allocated quota of each department/ program will be considered for the “award of laptops as per their respective quota (year-wise or semester-wise).
- Year-wise allocation will be followed for BS/Diploma programs, whereas, semester-wise allocation System will be followed for MS/MPhil, or equivalent Degree programs, and their respective quota/ allocation in merit.
According to official papers, the Prime Minister’s Laptops Scheme was one of the five-year programs that were unveiled as part of the Prime Minister’s Youth Schemes in 2013.
A total of 500,000 laptops were purchased and dispersed among the students in two stages under the PPRA Rules and the specified criteria of the declared program.
The task of carrying out the program and creating the standards and procedures for laptop distribution under this program fell to the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan.
Additionally, the PM Youth Laptop Scheme Phase-Ill is now in progress, intending to distribute 100,000 laptop computers to deserving pupils by the year 2023.
Furthermore, on June 6, 2023, the budget authorized the Prime Minister’s initiative, the “Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme,” which will be included in PSDP FY 2023–2024.
During the July 19, 2023, ECNEC meeting, the proposal was reviewed and given conditional approval. In response to the ECNEC’s ruling, the sponsors have filed an updated PC-1.
