PAKISTAN STUDIES EXCLUDED FROM COMPULSORY SUBJECTS FOR UNDERGRADUATE LEVEL

Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) has made a substantial change to its undergraduate policy as Pakistan studies excluded from compulsory subjects.

Pakistan study will no longer be required in BA, BSc, and all honors degree programs under the new undergraduate policy, which will be introduced in the 2023 scheme of study.

Academics have had varying opinions on the judgment. Concerns have been made by representatives of the Federation of All Pakistan Academic Staff Association and Dr. Amjad Magsi, General Secretary of the Punjab University Academic Staff Association.

They stressed that Pakistan Studies has been a component of the graduate curriculum for several decades and that replacing it with another topic would arouse sensitive issues about national feelings.

They requested the HEC to rethink and reintroduce Pakistan Studies as a required undergraduate course.

A spokeswoman for the Higher Education Commission, on the other hand, underlined that universities are not required to follow this regulation.

Individual institutions retain the freedom to add or eliminate Pakistan Studies from the curriculum, providing flexibility among various universities.
