Dr. Javed Akram, the interim health minister of Punjab, has stated that social work education needs to be actually oriented toward providing human services rather than just leading to a degree.
He said this during the Punjab University Department of Social Work’s inaugural “Social Work Field Practicum Manual” launch event on Friday at Al Raazi Hall.
Professor Dr. Khalid Mahmood of PU Vice Chancellorship, Dr. Uzma Ashiq, Chairperson of the Department of Social Work, Director General Mudassar Riaz Malik, Secretary of Social Welfare Zahoor Hussain, Registrar Dr. Ahmed Islam, Senior Analyst Salman Abid, Assistant Professor Muhammad Arshad Abbasi, and representatives from multiple NGOs were in attendance on this particular occasion.

According to Dr. Javed Akram, social service is emphasized in our faith and that education is the key to changing people’s attitudes and ways of thinking.
Students can actively contribute to this effort. According to him, collaboration among Pakistan’s social service sectors is essential for societal advancement.
Speaking to the attendees, PU VC Dr. Khalid Mahmood stated that the best way to address the social issues brought on by urbanization in the contemporary day is through humanitarian work.
He asserted that the social work department’s students may overcome social problems by working hard. According to him, the pupils will benefit in the long run from the fieldwork that has been implemented.
According to Dr. Uzma Ashiq, the social work department at Punjab University will keep contributing to the advancement of society.
She claimed that in a few months, the department has made significant progress toward building good relationships with other academic institutions, expanding the pool of potential employers for students, and developing its academic program.
The curriculum was explained to the attendees by Dr. Muhammad Arshad Abbasi.
