Higher Education Commission (HEC) Restricts Direct University Contracts with International NGOs

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has prohibited all medical institutions in the country from going into direct agreements with non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

HEC Director Dr Mukhtar Ahmed has composed a letter to the VCs of all universities and heads of educational colleges.

“No arrangement ought to be made or action is done with global organizations without taking advice from the foreign office,” the letter reads.

“Different colleges are cooperating with global associations, United Nations (UN), and others on sensitive and policy-centered issues,” it adds.

“This doesn’t send a positive impact to the world concerning Pakistan, and the foreign office has communicated reservations on this,” it states.

The HEC letter requested that the universities shut down these exercises because of the foreign office reservations.

“The exercises ought to be done in the wake of acquiring authorization from the foreign office. No such agreement marked or movement completed without authorization,” the HEC letter said.

“This letter won’t influence the independence of the institutions. Institutions ought to work in their specific manner with the goal that there is no apprehension about any sort of issues in the country,” Dr Mukhtar Ahmed said.
