MDCAT Controversy: Court Halts Proceedings, Fuels Uncertainty

The MDCAT controversy surrounding Sindh’s Medical & Dental College Admission Test has returned to the Sindh High Court (SHC) following a student petition challenging the purported paper leak.

Students have petitioned that the retake exam paper from Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS) on November 19 was sold for Rs—1.1 million after it was leaked.

Additionally, they said that the retake exam paper was identical to the one administered on September 10 of this year. Furthermore, several pupils received 100% scores according to the unofficial results that are making the rounds on the internet, which raises questions regarding the transparency of the testing procedure.

The student’s lawyers asked the court to order officials not to finalize the list of qualified applicants and move forward with the 2023–2024 session of admissions.

Following hearing the arguments, the concerned officials received instructions from the SHC division bench, which was presided over by acting chief judge Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi. The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PMDC) and other organizations are prohibited from acting further by the ruling until the court issues additional directives.

Additionally, responses from the respondents’ attorneys, including DUHS, were required by December 21.
