Canada announced the launch of the Canada Digital Nomad Visa 2024 in response to the shifting employment market situation, as the North American country attracts freelancers and digital nomads from throughout the world.
The new work visa allows freelancers to obtain temporary residence in Canada in addition to working remotely, to eliminate the need for physical presence in major cities.
As the Trudeau administration simplifies regulations to enable remote employment, Ottawa invented the phrase ‘independent contractors’ for those persons who will operate from remote locations in Canada.

Previously, freelancers were only allowed to stay in Canada for six months, but with greater influence, the number of the Canadian workforce is growing.
Canadian authorities stressed the value of freelancers’ abilities, saying the government is taking significant measures to accommodate digital nomads who are permitted to stay in the country. Canada’s highly trained IT experts will benefit from the new move, and the term will be extended to three years.
The administration hinted at a new program in early January, and the precise distance work, immigration, refugee, and citizenship information would be released in the following months.
It was discovered that the number of US nationals working as digital nomads increased by 2% in 2023, reaching 17.3 million.
How to Apply for Canada Digital Nomad Visa 2024
- Pakistanis can also apply for a Canada Visit visa, which permits South Asians to come to Canada for tourism, business meetings, or to visit family members.
- For Pakistanis, the Canada Visitor Visa allows for multiple visits over ten years, with stays of up to 180 days for each entry. Applicants must be free of any criminal or immigration offenses to apply for a visa.
- To indicate a temporary visit purpose, the financial account should reveal a job, own house, or family. A sufficient budget for the stay is also required.
- A valid passport, national ID, and sometimes extra papers such as bank statements are required. The application procedure consists of filling out a form, double-checking its completeness, and uploading supporting papers, followed by an appointment at a local visa center.
- Visa and biometric fees need to be paid at the center, and tracking information is shared.
