Punjab Announces Holidays Due to High Level of Smog in Province

In the midst of the stifling fog that has disturbed daily life in the state, notably Lahore, the caretaker Punjab administration has declared the shutdown of schools.

During a news conference in Lahore, Mohsin Naqvi, the interim Chief Minister (CM) of Punjab, said that all schools and workplaces in districts where pollution has reached dangerous levels will stay closed on Friday, November 10th.

This holiday will be observed at schools and offices in the Lahore division, Gujranwala, Nankana Sahib, and Wazirabad. This holiday will be honored only this week.

Furthermore, markets will be closed on Saturday. On Friday and Saturday, hotels, parks, and cinemas will be closed. Normally, these companies are closed on Sundays.

A new study done by the University of Chicago has sparked substantial worries among Lahore residents owing to the city’s worrisome levels of pollution.

According to the report, the city’s residents’ life expectancy is decreasing by 7 years every year.

Furthermore, the paper emphasizes the negative impact of smog on youngsters, comparing their exposure to current pollution levels to smoking 30 cigarettes daily.
