Hindko Language Dictionary
The Gandhara Hindko Academy has distributed the fifth edition of the Hindko-Urdu dictionary. An official statement said, “The two-volume dictionary has 2032 pages and more than 100,000 words and articulations.
Hindko language is primarily spoken in the mountainous areas of Pakistan. It is also quite famous among different communities of India and Afghanistan because this is their mother tongue.
Hindko language is basically an Indo-Aryan language with its unique traditions and culture-preserved songs, poetry, and oral traditions.

It said, “The most recent edition is a continuation of the main vocabulary arranged by the late Prof Dr. Elahi Bakhsh Awan, who hailed from the walled city of Peshawar.
Dr. Elahi Baksh Awan procured his doctorate in Linguistics 50 years ago from the University of London, Britain, subsequent to completing broad research on the phonology of the Hindko language.
The Gandhara Hindko board distributed the main edition of the dictionary in 2008 during the lifetime of Dr. Elahi Bakhsh Awan who had a few other research-based publications surprisingly.
Afterward, the board and the academy brought out four editions of the dictionary in 2017, 2019, 2022, and presently the most recent one in the year 2023.
The work was achieved by a group containing Dr. Muhammad Adil, Zeeshan Ghaznavi, Saqib Hussain, Ali Awais Khayal, Muhammad Noman Qayyum, and Bilal Ahmad.
