Delay Hits Highly Anticipated Mobile Phone Installment Program

The scheduled introduction of the Mobile Phone Installment Program by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications has been delayed, causing the federal government to withdraw the policy draft for evaluation.

The government has asked the Ministry of Information Technology to resubmit the policy following a comprehensive review by the Ministry of Law.

Earlier this month, the Ministry of IT and Telecom submitted the Mobile Phones on Installment Policy to the federal cabinet for approval. According to sources, once the federal government approves the policy directive, the Ministry of IT and Telecom plans to launch a mobile phone financing scheme.

The policy is now being reviewed by the Ministry of Law and is scheduled to be submitted to the federal cabinet in the coming days. If authorized, the initiative is anticipated to debut at the end of this month or early next month.

The mobile phones on installment project aims to empower individuals, particularly those with little financial resources, by allowing them to purchase mobile phones using interest-free payment plans.

The suggested regulation also tackles the problem of defaulters who fail to fulfill their installment payments. Individuals who are having difficulty making payments may have their cell phones blocked after being approved.
