According to the company’s revised terms and conditions, unlimited WhatsApp backups on Google Drive are no longer available.
Yet, neither Google nor WhatsApp has specified a precise date for the modifications to take effect; yet, users of the app’s beta version have already seen the change.

This implies that their backups, which contain conversation history, photographs, videos, and other material, will take up space on your Google Drive.
According to Meta, the change will be implemented for all Android users in the first half of 2024, and users will be notified 30 days in advance via a banner in the messaging app’s Chat backup settings.
A method for minimizing storage space on Google Drive is to create text-only backups that omit all media files. This strategy makes WhatsApp backups on Android comparable to iPhone backups, which have traditionally depended on iCloud storage.
